Country Capital Sofia is the Capital of Bulgaria.The city’s landmarks reflect more than 2,000 years of history, including Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet occupation. Sofia’s latitude is 42.697708 and longitude is 23.333502.

Major Bodies of Water One of the major bodies of water in Bulgaria is the Black Sea. One of the major river bodies in Bulgaria is Danube River.

Highest Point The highest point in the country, located in the Rila Mountains, is Musala Mt., at 9,594 ft. (2,925 m).

Popular Sport Football is the most popular sport in Bulgaria also known as soccer. In 1962, Bulgaria first qualified for a FIFA World Cup tournament, in total of seven participations to date. Soccer is a big part of the Bulgarian sport mystique being a consistent contended in the world stage like the FIFA World Cup.

Festivals! The International Music Festival “Music Week in Sofia” is one of the many festivals celebrated in Bulgaria. This festival is celebrated. In 1982 the festival became a member of the European Music, Theatre and Ballet Festivals Association, along with many other prestigious Festivals throughout Europe.

Exported Goods The most exported goods in Bulgaria is almost two-thirds of all exports are capital goods, such as machinery and equipment, and one-fourth are consumer goods, mainly of agricultural origin.

Famous Companies The most highly ranked Bulgarian entry, the Bulgarian refinery of Russian oil company Lukoil Neftochim has come in 35th on the list of the 500 largest companies in the region. Lukoil Bulgaria, which trades in the refinery output, is ranked 55th.

European Union Bulgaria is a part of the a European Union. Bulgaria and Romania joined the European Union in 2007, raising the numbers to 27.

Famous Bulgarian Celebrity Nina Dobrev is a Bulgarian-Canadian actress. She portrayed the role of Mia Jones in the drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation and Elena Gilbert on The CW's supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries.

Famous Political Figure Kristalina Ivanova Georgieva-Kinova is a Bulgarian politician and the current chief executive officer of the World Bank. Until 2017, she was European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources in the college of the Juncker Commission

WW1 Involvement World War I, Bulgaria fought on the losing side. Bulgaria allied with the Central Powers.The Kingdom of Bulgaria participated in World War I on the side of the Central Powers from 14 October 1915, when the country declared war on Serbia, until 30 September 1918, when the Armistice of Thessalonica came into effect.

WW2 Involvement The military history of Bulgaria during World War II had a time of period of neutrality until March 1, 1941, a period of alliance with the Axis Powers until September 9, 1944 (on 8 September, the Red Army entered Bulgaria) and a period of time as allies with the Allies in the final year of the war.

Political Leader Rumen Radev is the current president of Bulgaria. Radev has been president since January 2017. Radev previously served as Commander of the Bulgarian Air Force.

Form of Government Unitary multiparty republic with one legislative house.

Important Event In 650 Bulgars founded a kingdom in the south-eastern Balkans that became known as Bulgaria.

Iconic Landmark The Seven Rila Lakes is are commonly visited group of glacier lakes located in northeastern Rila Mountains in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria's Population Bulgaria’s population as in 2016 is 7.128 million.

Religion Bulgarian Orthodox is the main religion in Bulgaria. There are also Roman Catholics, Muslims, Protestants, Jews etc. Around twelve percent of the people are Muslim.

Climate Most of Bulgaria’s weather has a moderate continental climate, meaning the weather is mostly dry and cold in the winter time and dry and hot in the summer. Temperatures go as high as 113F and as low as -37F
