Budget 2012 (2) PE (Physical Sciences and Engineering): 44 % LS (Life Sciences): 39 % SH (Social Sciences and Humanities): 17 % Research proposals of a multi- and inter-disciplinary nature strongly encouraged throughout the ERC’s schemes

Three types of grants ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grants (up to 1 500 000 Euros [+ 500 000 for PIs moving from a third country to the EU] for a period of up to 5 years) ERC Advanced Investigator Grants (up to E. 2 500 000 [+ 1 000 000 for PIs moving from a third country to the EU] for a period of up to 5 years) ERC Synergy Grants (up to Euros 15 000 000 for a period of up to 6 years) + Proof of Concept funding (up to Euros 150 000 for a period of 12 months)

Synergy Grant Designed to foster research at the intellectual frontiers  expected that Synergy groups will be interdisciplinary Not a network Minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 PIs (+, as necessary, their teams). One of the PIs designated as the Lead PI Section 1: Scientific proposal (15 pages) Section 2 : Extended synopsis (5 pages), CV (2 pages per PI), track-record (2 pages per PI)

Synergy-2012: Next steps Step 1-B: 26-28 June. Between 20 and 25 proposals should be selected, out of the 99 Step 2 in October (?): interviews of the C-PIs (coordinator-PIs) that passed the Step 1-B Step 3, around November: selection of the ca. 12 to 15 proposals to be granted.
