Snowshoe hare populations used to cycle nearly synchronously throughout much of North America. Over the past 20 years this continent-wide cycle has lacked synchrony.

We are learning interesting things about lynx… Sometimes they become nomadic.

Project Focus Primary Problem 1: Land managers do not understand what habitat components are critical to maintain lynx dispersal corridors, so they are unable to prioritize land acquisitions between protected areas or quantify potential threats to maintaining movement corridors. Secondary Problem 2: Our ability to maintain long-term viable populations of lynx is inhibited because we do not understand the role of lynx dispersal in maintaining local to continental scale lynx-hare population dynamics. Secondary Problem 3: We don’t understand the impacts of trapping, and potential regulatory changes, on local and regional lynx population dynamics.

Due to the scale of this study it is being replicated at multiple locations in Alaska and Canada.
