The main events (Summary) There was a king and queen, Gods of love ( had three daughters) Apollo the oracle, had warned their parents that Psyche will become a feared monster The oracle suggested that they take Psyche to a high mountain and leave her. Her husband, forbidden her from seeing her husband's face. At night, she discovered his true identity, Eros.
The main events (Summary) He left her for breaking his trust, and she seeked help from a god, Aphrodite Psyche had to do a series of hard tasks to gain mercy from Aphrodite The reward of completing the series allowed her to have Eros back Psyche became a godesses to live with eros forever.
Symbols We as a whole realize that when Cupid strikes with his golden bolts, a man falls in a split second, hopefully falls in love. You could state that the bolts speak to love itself. And that the bow and arrow is what makes gods and goddesses fall in love. Bow and arrow
Analysing Eros and Psyche A king and queen have three daughters All three of the girls are attractive,but one of them is absolutely gorgeous-psyche People come from all around the world just to check out how beautiful psyche is All this adoration of psyche gets totally out of hand; men start worshipping her as if she were a goddess and ignore the altars of the goddess of love and beauty, venus(aka aphrodite) Men even start saying that psyche is even more beautiful than venus The goddess of love gets kind of hateful and orders her son, Cupid (a.k.a. Eros), to go and punish Psyche by making her fall in love with the ugliest thing around.
Analysing Eros and Psyche Cupid sneaks into Psyche's bedroom to do his mother's bidding, but, when he sees how beautiful Psyche is, he gets all distracted and pricks himself with his own arrow. Cupid falls instantly in love with Psyche and leaves without doing what his mother told him to do. Psyche's life continues on as usual: everybody comes to gawk at how hot she is. However, since Venus has it in for her, nobody ever falls in love with Psyche. Psyche's two sisters end up getting married, but Psyche is stuck sitting alone in her room. Getting worried that they've made some god angry, Psyche's parents decide to go consult the oracle of Apollo about their daughter's future.
Connections to modern society Since aphrodite didn’t let him fall in love with his goddess it’s kind of like modern society because mothers won’t let their kids fall in love with their soul mate. Eros/ cupid are also referred to modern day society because of Valentine’s day. Valentine’s day celebrates in which cupid/eros are basically mascots of this holiday.
What values are expressed in this myth? The values expressed in this myth has to do with love and trust. Eros trusts that Psyche will never look upon him. Psyche eventually does break this trust hence the moral to this story, "Love cannot live where there is no trust." However it also shows the values of forgiveness and loyalty. Psyche did everything she could to be with Eros once more, and after risking her own life, she was with Eros once more. Eros had forgiven her and Psyche had shown Eros her loyalty.
Beauty and the beast is one similar story to the eros and psyche. Similarities Beauty and the beast is one similar story to the eros and psyche. It’s similar because they are in love and they are both totally different. Her father did not appreciate her marrying the beast just like aphrodite didn’t appreciate eros marrying Psyche. In both of the stories there are people who are very jealous of the main characters beauty Both of the stories have both characters falling in love without caring about the looks
Theme and Motifs It teaches us that lovers will do anything to live up to the deals we make. Love is the theme of this story. Eros ( god of desire and love) himself falls in love with Psyche, you can bet that romance plays a big role in the theme of the story. Another motif would be resilience. Psyche shows this because when Eros leaves her, she does everything to gain his forgiveness, and later on she does.
Discussion question: Why is Venus so jealous of Psyche? Does it make sense for the goddess of love and beauty to be jealous? Why or why not? If Psyche is the protagonist of this story, who would you say is the antagonist? Why do you think so?
