Bishop Justus Church of England School Morning Worship The Lord’s Prayer Ordinary Time 5th September 2017 Bishop Justus Church of England School
Gather The Lord be with you And also with you
Receive Jesus taught the disciples to pray … ‘Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.’ Matthew 6:9-13
When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray he taught them a prayer, it is now known as “The Lord’s Prayer”. It has become the most important prayer for Christians around the world and is used at most services of worship …
Engage Some discussion ideas … What are the different themes that are included in the Lord’s Prayer? If you were to write a prayer that could be used everyday what themes would you put in? Why do you think prayer is important to people of faith? Video suggestion – The Lord’s Prayer in Jesus’ native language (Aramaic) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA5ZJBv3Soo
Respond [Have a minute of silent reflection, thinking about the theme of today’s worship – then say the prayer …] God, We thank you that Jesus taught us how we can pray. Help us to offer thoughts and prayers for people who are struggling, and to consider what we really need in our daily lives. Amen
Go Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God
