Existence of God: Anthropological Argument Romans 14:1-2 March 5, 2017

We are answering the question: Why do you believe in God? Existence of God We are answering the question: Why do you believe in God?

Existence of God We have already looked at the Teleological argument. Which stated simply is: Design Demands a Designer.

Existence of God Now we look at the Anthropological Argument This argument is often called the Moral Argument – in that it deals with the existence of moral laws with men.

Anthropological Argument Basic Argument: If moral codes exist then there must be a moral creator. Moral codes exist Therefore, a moral creator must exist Romans 2:14-15

Anthropological Argument “Two things fill the mind with awe. The heavens above and the moral law within.” – Immanuel Kont “One can regard the moral law as an illusion, and so cut himself off from the common ground of humanity.” – C. S. Lewis

Anthropological Argument A bull in a field, kill something it is NOT responsible because it does NOT have a moral code. The effects of Hitler’s decision to kill thousands of people are still felt today.

Anthropological Argument Man has a moral quality which animals do NOT have. Where does this moral quality come from?

Anthropological Argument Is it: Mechanical Physical Mathematical Logical Evolutionary The answer is NONE of the above. Because of this it MUST come from God.

Anthropological Argument Atheists say: Because evil exists God cannot exist. However: If EVIL exists GOOD must also exist. If GOOD and EVIL exist, a MORAL code must exist.

Anthropological Argument Humans Nature speaks of a moral code. Think about these common sayings: How would you like it if I did that to you? That’s my seat I was here first. Leave him alone, he’s not doing anything. Give me bite of your orange, I gave you part of mine. Come on you promised.

Anthropological Argument In each of those statements a person is appealing to a moral code or a standard of ethics. Everyone is expected to know them. People will not usually argue unless they are trying to prove something right. That alone points to a moral code.

Anthropological Argument Human Civilization speaks of a moral code. All civilizations, ages and cultures are basically alike. Look at the following examples:

Anthropological Argument Some say you may have more than one wife. NONE has said have any woman you want. Some differ on amount of clothing worn. NONE say touch anyone where ever you wish. Some say take vengeance if you wish. NONE say go be a cold blooded killer.

Anthropological Argument Are people admired for … Being cowards? Being traitors? Being murderers? Being selfish? Being abusive?

Anthropological Argument Imagine visiting 10 different island populations. All separated, yet all having laws against: Murder Adultery Lying Stealing.

Anthropological Argument The ONLY logical conclusion is Man has adopted God’s standards for what is right and wrong.

Anthropological Argument Only God is: Eternal (Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17) Holy (Isiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8) Just and Righteous (Psalm 89:14) Forever Consistent (Malachi 3:6)

Anthropological Argument “The fool has said in his heart, There is no God.” Psalm 14:1 When believers follow evidence to the Creator

Anthropological Argument “For the Lord is good;” Psalm 100:5 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10

Anthropological Argument What do you think about the existence of God? The fact that a moral code existence is excellent proof of the existence of God.
