Lighting
Lighting in photography Light is more than just how bright or dark it is. It’s also the key to the look, mood and atmosphere of your images. The direction of the light will affect how the shape and texture of the subject appears, while the colour and how soft or harsh the light is can totally change a shot’s appearance.
Types of Lighting Back lighting is when light is behind your subject and is directed at you and your camera. This type of lighting creates silhouettes quiet easily. Ambient light is non-direct soft lighting that often is bounced from one surface to another. As a result of the non-direct lighting, brightness of your subject is lower than with other types of lighting. Side Lighting is when the lighting is coming from the side. This usually provides a great deal of contrast, can create long shadows and adds depth to the image. This type of lighting can add a dramatic flare to architectural and portraiture photography.
Soft light is diffuse providing lighting that is even Soft light is diffuse providing lighting that is even. This type of lighting reduces contrast and minimizes shadows. Hard light is quite direct and can often be intense in brightness. This type of lighting creates strong shadows and high contrast The most obvious type of lighting is Artificial lighting. This can be generated from a variety studio lights, and built in or external flashes.
how Lighting is used Light is used in photography to change the mood of the picture for example darker lighting will make the picture look and some times feel darker and brighter light will make the picture look more bright and cheery most of the time the exception to this is if you want to out line some thing you can take the picture with the light in front of you so you only get a siloet’s of your subject or you can darken it to make the subject stand out more.
