Mentees Ages and Abilities Selection Process Physical contact: CRB advice How to Keep in Touch with Students and Make Appointments: you are the relationship driver.

When, Where, How? Time commitment Frequency of meetings Length of meetings Time of day Size of mentoring group Venues and educational trips

Scheme steps: 1. Complete and return CRB 2. Group launch meeting at school: meet students and tour building (1 hr) 3. You must get an email from THEBP saying that we have received your CRB form and that you are ready to mentor before you start individual sessions. Do not start without it!

Building a Successful Relationship: Key Skills

Engaging students Discuss: Which actions could be interpreted by students as you ignoring them? Why should you avoid interrupting a student when they are speaking? How do you make sessions ‘fun’ for teenagers?

Managing Participation Discuss: How do you encourage a shy student to talk more? How do you manage who is talking within a group of students?

Ending the Relationship Tell students that next session is final one. Ask what they want to focus on most. Tell them what you have learnt from them. Acceptable to give good luck card and keep in touch via work email. You must let company and me know
