7/31/17- Copy ALL notes. Capitalization of Sentences, Quotations, and Salutations Capitalize the first word of every sentence and the first word of a direct quotation that is a complete sentence. When a quoted sentence is interrupted by explanatory words such as she said, do not begin the second part of the quotation with a capital letter. When the second part of a quotation is a new sentence, put a period after the interrupting expression and begin the second part with a capital letter. Capitalize the first word in the salutation and closing of a letter, the title and name of the person addressed, and a title used in place of a name.

Tuesday, 8/1/17 Copy these sentences onto the same paper as your notes from yesterday. Then correct the capitalization. 1. the Poet who won the prize teaches at a nearby College. 2. Alicia said, “my cat likes to sleep on my desk while i’m studying.” 3. “I like apples,” he said, “But a good orange can’t be beat!”
