18th Dynasty and the Spread of Atenism By: Damelvy Rodriguez

Nefertiti and Akhenaten

Nefertiti and Akhenaten Akhenaten ruled from ca. 1378 – 1362 B.C. Akhenaten is responsible for bringing innovation in minor arts, religion and civic life in Egyptian culture. He moved the imperial capital from Thebes to the city of Akhetaten (Today called Tell el Amarna).

Situation Analysis Akhenaten and Nefertiti are trying to transition the Egyptian society from a polytheism to a worshiping many gods to a monotheistic society, worshiping Aten, the sun god.

Objectives Inform members of society of the sun god, Atem Increase number of believers Increase power of royal family

Strategy Increase recognition Atem’s brand through visuals. In person gatherings by Nefertiti and royal family members with constituents and stakeholders. Genuine written and oral testimonials of the royal’s family relationship with Atem.

Audience The highest officials or the ruling class need to be the first group the king and queen connect with. The highest officials or the ruling class will be responsible for sharing the messages they have received with craftsman, and so on and so forth. Messages will travel from a top to bottom formation.

Messages What Aten is known for? What he will do for the people? Why Aten over all the other gods?

Tactics Nefertiti will keep a public diary. There has to be constant storytelling of her interactions with Aten. Have a presence. If there is a temple where Aten is worshiped, Nefertiti should be seen worshiping there occasionally. In person messenger system – group of people collecting messages, requests and prayers they want communicated to Aten. Nefertiti and Akhenaten need to make sure the public feels listen to, now that they are the only connection to Aten.

Results More members of the society will only worship Atem. More members of society will increase their level of respect and value for the royal couple and family.
