Research on Resources for Unit 10 – Educating Children By Hannah Spurling, Toni Butcher and Emilia Kettle

Animated Story This animation is an Aesop's Fable which tells a moral story, a moral story is a tale in which a lesson is taught. The Moral of this story is Good deeds are rewarded. This would be a good medium to educate a child because it is still entertaining whilst also teaching them. The use of visuals in this format is more appealing to children than masses of written content they would have to read therefore meaning the children would be more alert and interested. An animation like this would also work well because young children connect information with a picture – if they can visualise something they are more likely to remember it. We thought that this medium could be done through a draw my life format or as a story/ song animation. https://youtu.be/iPybpc-xuG0 - The lion and the mouse https://youtu.be/aImi0YX0acc - Draw my Life

Educational Video – for 9-11 (older ages) This video is from Horrible Histories that teaches children history in a fun and comedic way. We thought this could be a good way to approach the unit through older primary school children because although it is more informative it is still more enjoyable than a classroom environment of listening to teachers reading and having to write down masses of information. We thought we could approach this by writing an educational sketch similar to horrible histories that educates but is still fun to watch, keeping children wanting to learn and yet still holding their attention. https://youtu.be/OZIMRVpKLFg - Victorian Medicines

Flipbook This video is a simple use of flipbooks, and shows animation in a creative way. We thought that this format would be more interesting as it wouldn’t just be something to watch, it has an interactive side to it. We thought that flipbooks would be an adventurous way to go as it would be a new experience, and would also give us the opportunity to explore new skills and be creative with our project. An advantage to flipbooks is that you don’t have to be a great artist, whereas in other mediums we looked at, you do. https://youtu.be/11tQImuHrmo - Super Bowl Shark Dance Flipbook

Stories This children’s book is a good way to educate children on animals and other topics. The use of simple text would make it accessible for younger children. This particular story teaches children about the transformation that a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly. We thought that this format would be good for younger children as it would be a simple yet effective way to educate them on various topics. One advantage of a story would be that the illustrations wouldn’t have to be amazing, but they would still be necessary to hold the children’s attention.

Educational Poster Another medium we researched was an educational programme, we thought that this could be a good format for the project because it still entails minimal written information with interesting visuals. The use of bright colours would grab children's attention along with the fun visuals. We would approach this poster by choosing a focus topic for either the younger or older side of the age demographic and then creating a fun, informative account of details similar to the lion one pictured to the left.
