Learning Target: I can review CPR and identify how learning safety precautions are important. Success Criteria: I can understand the need to know how to save a life and why. Standard: NHES #2 Safe and healthy environment Day #8 *Project today and exam next time. Bring Notebook* Warm-up: Interview your peer and record answers. Be prepared to report back to whole class. What does cardio mean? What does pulmonary mean? What does resuscitation mean?

Notes: If an emergency happens, stay calm. First ask the person if they are okay and shake them gently. If there is no answer and you are alone, call for help or 911. If you can, do CPR. These places give CPR classes: The American Red Cross American Heart Association The National Safety Council 4. You can get certified in middle school or above.

5. CPR means cardiopulmonary resuscitation 5. CPR means cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Cardio- means “of the heart”. Pulmonary- means “ of the lungs”. Resuscitation is a medical word that means “to or revive” bring back to life. 6. Sometimes CPR can help a person who has stopped breathing and whose heart may have stopped beating, to stay alive. 7. People who handle emergencies such as police officers, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, and nurses are all trained to do CPR. 8. When a rescuer gives some breaths to someone who is not breathing on his or her own is called an artificial respiration or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Project – FINISH FOR HOMEWORK Directions: Create a cartoon that shows how a person can be rescued or saved. Use your notebook to recall facts or images. Fold drawing paper into 6 boxes. In EACH box show a stage of the emergency, safety precautions used, and rescue measures taken. Label each cartoon telling me what’s going on. Remember, your person lives!! ***YOU MUST Color all cartoons!!*** Lengthwise and fold into 6 boxes. Create a safety cartoon. Show how you saved someone's life. Include steps taken. Also, CPR!!
