STAFF DEVELOPMENT   Annual Teaching, Learning and Assessment Conference Digital Technologies October 2017

Digital Assessment Identify a range of online resources with a digital theme Evaluate the extent to which they would work for you and how you might apply these in your practice.

Why are digital skills so important? Digital Skills Strategy

Source: JISC Student Digital Tracker: ‘Learners most commonly turn to their tutors as the main source of learning digital skills’ ‘HE learners most likely to rely on VLE: 80% HE vs 61% FE’ ‘82% of students agree digital skills will be important in their chosen career, yet only 50% agree that their course prepares them well for the workplace’ JISC digital student tracker

Whole College Improvement Needed As a College we need to improve how we: stretch and challenge students so they reach and/or exceed their potential/minimum expected grade (MEG) differentiate to meet the needs of all students. During this session consider how you could apply your new learning to stretch and challenge and how these new digital skills could help you meet all your students needs.

I know about this but haven’t really used it What do you know? Each icon should come up one at a time – use this to assess how confident the group is generally and also to sound out attitudes and experience for individuals for peer support. I have used this I know about this but haven’t really used it This is new to me

https://goo.gl/XbLzxq Explore as many of the resources as you want – perhaps focussing on resources you have not explored before, or feel unsure about. Consider each in terms of how you can use them for assessment how this will develop opportunities for stretch and challenge for all your students. Visit the link below and you will be able to access the various sites we have discussed so far. https://goo.gl/XbLzxq This section is more of an exploration where we can let teachers “play” with the different things. It might be worth getting staff to consider things like using One Drive as an online portfolio / submitting work as well as for quizzes. The link is to a padlet board with a short summary and descriptions. If anyone is having trouble, the full address is here: https://padlet.com/smshphrd/digitalassessment and the link is also in the technology section of the ATLC VLE page.

PLAR will help you to practice, improve and perfect your digital skills through the academic year, with support from an ATLC or ILT team. If you take part you will be meeting a range of Professional Standards For e.g. No.1 Reflect on what works best in your teaching and learning to meet the diverse needs of learners and No.2 Evaluate and challenge your practice, values and beliefs. Sign up today! We think you have the best understanding of what works well in your classroom and what you might need to change. Practitioner-led action research projects will help in improving practice and fulfill a minimum of 30-hours CPD. Staff will be supported by an ATLC or ILT through the year.
