Mood Board

Mood Board

Analysis In each mood board I have selected a range of photographs taken in the studio and in more ‘urban’ settings. When creating my own photo-shoot it will be important to consider location as it affects the overall appearance of the magazine, indie rock magazines usually follow a more editorial look. The lighting tends to be high key lighting to enhance the subject’s features. However the lighting can be made using studio back lights to make a scene to appear to have natural lighting. A close up or mid shot is often used too, this can add to the direct address portrayed by the subject.

Initial ideas The subject for the photo-shoot will be Adele Williams, she will be representing an indie rock artist. This look will be achieved through choice of clothing and make up, for example leather jackets with graphic t-shirts and stronger, fuller make-up i.e. defined eye liner. I think I will get Adele to pose against a white background, using a Canon Powershot SX410 IS camera with the flash provided. I will not use a tripod because I want to create a mid- shot look, closer towards the subject. The reason for my choices is so that the aesthetics of the main photograph portrays the chosen genre, indie rock, to the target audience. I feel that these choices are appropriate for this genre because after doing market research I have discovered that the elements I have selected best portray indie rock. I have also considered the location, from the mood board I created I have discovered that indie rock can easily be portrayed in urban settings or against a plain background. The use of urban locations gives the magazine a more connected feel to the artist, as it would appear that they have been spotted on location. However the use of a plain background gives the impression that the shoot is more professional and completed in the studio, this may suggest that the magazine is given a higher status because of the potential specialist equipment used.
