Invasive vs Non-native Species Invasive= an organism (plant, animal, fungus, or bacterium) that is not native and has negative effects on our economy, our environment, or our health. Not all introduced species are invasive. Invasive plants and animals are the second greatest threat to biodiversity after habitat loss Non-native= an organism that is from another continent, country, or area of the world

What makes a species invasive: They tolerate a variety of habitat conditions They grow and reproduce rapidly They compete aggressively for resources (like food, water, and nesting sites) They lack natural enemies or pests in the new ecosystem
