Nelson County Process and Timeline November 7, 2017

Superintendent / Deputy Superintendent 5 years – Superintendent – Daviess County Public Schools Currently: KASA Director of Program Development Coordinator of Superintendent Search Services

My Responsibilities… Facilitate initial planning and process development Create and deliver timely communications with key stakeholders Oversee the application process Advertise and recruit high-quality candidates Guide screening committee work Assist the Board in criteria development for candidates Communicate and coordinate finalists activities Assist the Board through the interview process Coordinate the negotiation of employment contract.

And most importantly… Ensure that, from start to finish, logistics are handled properly and efficiently Ensure that the process is done legally, ethically, and with great professionalism as befits the Nelson County Board of Education and the Nelson County Schools.

2018 Order of Events * January 2: Position posted and published February 26: Application deadline February 26: Applications delivered to screening committee – screening work begins March 16: Screening committee recommendations to BOE * All dates subject to change

Established Screening Committee Parent representative is Suzanne Hite Certified staff representatives are David Mudd and Colleen Yates Denice Boblitt represents classified staff District principals are represented by Jeremy Hill Board representative Diane Berry.

Screening Committee Charge Using the filter of the Board’s approved position criteria… Screen ALL submitted applications Conduct preliminary phone interviews and make initial reference calls Deliver recommended candidates for Board consideration with rationale by March 16, 2018.

Screening Committee Ultimate Goal: Recommend a slate of quality finalists, from which any could be a successful superintendent for Nelson County Schools.

2018 Order of Events * March 16: Screening committee recommendations to BOE March 21: Finalists names made public March 26-29: Finalist showcase / Interviews April 17: Target date for appointment * All dates subject to change

The Board has been clear! They are looking for the right FIT for the District They are not going to rush They want to frontload as much input from as many stakeholders as possible They want the application process to be wide-open and are encouraging the collection of a large pool They want a recommended finalist slate that will ensure a positive result.

Advertisement and Application Procedure Position advertisement – Must be posted for a minimum of 30 days before any vetting may begin Advertised: KASA web and professional community network, KSBA, AASA, KDE, district website Application completed online (no extensions on deadline) Behavioral prompts sent to finalists for written response.
