How do we know which type of text we are looking at? Each type of text has ‘language features’ We looked at some of these last session
Language used in texts See if you can list some of the language features used in each type of text. Some of them may be used in more than one.

TAKE 10-15 MINUTES… Have a look around the college (have a break at the same time!) Look for examples of the 4 different types of text- some of them may have more than one purpose
Persuasive writing Scenario: You have been on holiday and you are not happy. The hotel you stayed in was not as it was described in the brochure and as a result, you had a really dreadful time. Write a letter of complaint to the travel agent asking for your money back.

Layout and structure How do you layout a formal letter?
Things to include… How much you paid for the holiday Details about what you were expecting Details about what you actually got How this has effected you How you would like this situation resolved Remember, to make it persuasive, try to use the features we identified earlier
