Assessments… Complete three tests each term. Aims of the tests are to celebrate children’s achievements and identify next steps. Tests consist of: - Maths Reasoning - English Reading - Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling - Writing (moderated throughout the year)

Assessments… End of National Curriculum expectation is a scaled score of 100. Guidance of results… Each envelope contains 2 sheets with your child’s outcomes for Reading and Maths and a table to show results. SAMPLE of Results… Strands showing how your child performed in the different topics within the subject. Raw score is then converted to the age standardised score. Breakdown of you child’s total score within a specific topic. The raw score your child achieved.
How you can support… Maths Working BELOW: Learn ‘Beat That’ challenges weekly – copy calculations out repeatedly. Complete My Maths online homework Practise counting in steps (2, 3, 5 and 10s) Go over the 4 operations (arithmetic) Working at EXPECTED: All of above plus… Practise telling the time Learn 2, 5 and 10 times tables fluently and know the inverse. Real life experiences – cooking (measuring out ingredients)shopping (handle money – paying the shopkeeper) Working at EXCEEDING (greater depth): All of the above plus… Problem solving (2 step problems) Ask your child to teach YOU! www.nrich.co.uk – visit the website and try some of the challenging activities (beware they are challenging!)
How you can support… Reading Working BELOW: Read to your child at least once a week. Hear your child read at least three times a week (school book, library book or a home interest book). Read signs in the environment, adverts, comics, internet and instructions (cooking) All children are expected to access and complete their cracking comprehension online homework. The text is read to the children at this age. Working at EXPECTED: All above and: Look at questions from the quiz, any your child struggled with try to create similar types of questions (retrieval, vocabulary, sequencing and inference). What is the main idea of the text, can the children come up with a new title? Working at EXCEEDING (greater depth): All of the above and : Discuss non-fiction features
How you can support… Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Working BELOW: Learn where to punctuate in sentences. Understand different sentence types (commands, statement, exclamation and question). Access and attempt different questions and activities each week using the website IXL English (year 2). Working at EXPECTED: All of the above plus: Learn the terms and apply in both reading and writing: noun, noun phrases, verbs, adverbs and adjectives. Working at EXCEEDING (greater depth): Applying suffixes, ment, ness, ful, ly, fully and less.
Weekly Homework Daily Reading (Please sign reading record, any book/paper) My Maths (set fortnightly) Learn Its. They must be returned every Wednesday. Cracking Comprehension online (set fortnightly). Library is open daily after school until 4.00 p.m
