Background In 2008, WHO developed a 5-day training package in IYCF counselling for Health workers: An integrated Course In 2013, UNICEF and WHO agreed to jointly update and modify to Include counselling cards similar to the Community Based IYCF Counselling Package into the package Modify some of the training methodologies to incorporate more participatory adult learning methods Incorporate the latest WHO recommendations on infant feeding in the context of HIV

…..and more so To bring together previous WHO training courses such as: Breastfeeding counselling, a training course; Infant and young child feeding: an integrated course; Combined course on growth assessment and infant and young child feeding Community based infant and young child feeding counselling package Complementary feeding counselling: a training course

Process The task started in 2014 in collaboration with UNICEF In February 2016, WHO and UNICEF coordinated for a the multi-country field test and workshop in Nairobi, Kenya

Objectives of Pretesting Assess the feasibility of incorporating more participatory adult learning methods Assess feasibility of incorporating counselling cards into the 5-day Integrated IYCF Counselling Course for health workers

Outcomes of the Pretesting Feedbacks on the strength and weaknesses of each session including training methodologies, counselling cards An understanding of the similarities and difference between the Integrated IYCF Course and the Combined Course on Growth Assessment and IYCF Counselling An outline of the next steps to facilitate the finalization of the Integrated IYCF Course

Still ongoing… 3-day, 5-day or 10-day training agendas being developed, as examples Contents being finalized Working on lay-out, editing, clearances, etc.

Next Steps Finalize the comprehensive infant and young child feeding training course which will include modules on Breastfeeding complementary feeding, and growth monitoring Launch the document in 2017
