Kishan Veer Yadav I am Assistant Prof. in Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics Department in SGSITS Indore M.P. I am explaining topic of Simple Machines under Engineering Mechanics Subject which is useful for 1st Year Engineering students.

Kishan Veer Yadav Simple Machines Engineering Mechanics Civil Engineering 1st Yr. Engineering Students CE-AMD SGSITS INDORE

Out-of-class Activity Design -1 Learning Objective(s) of Out-of-Class Activity To learn about simple machines. To understand various types of simple machines which we use in daily life. Key Concept(s) to be covered To understand basic principles of working of simple machines

Out-of-class Activity Design - 2 Main Video Source URL Additional Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtfVZtuyuHU&index=1&list=LLM0yiTgW3MHDOSJU4zKaUgQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PALAINQO4Q Mapping Concept to Video Source License of Video Standard YouTube License CONCEPT VIDEO SEGMENT DURATION (in min) Definition and type Inclined Plane Lever Screw Pulley Wheel and Axle Wedge V1- 00:00 – 00:35 V2 -00:39-01:36 V3 -01:40 -02:36 V4 -02:40-03:50 V5 -03:54-04:52 V6-04:55-06:00 V7-06:05-07:00 0.58 0.95 0.93 1.33 0.96 1.08 0.92 TOTAL DURATION Main video 7.09 min +additional video 22.53 min= 29.62min

Out-of-class Activity Design - 3 Aligning Assessment with Learning Objective Learning Objective Assessment Strategy Expected duration (in min) Additional Instructions (if any) To understand simple machines Q.1 Define simple machines 2. List various type of machines 3. Spiral stairs are the example of which simple machine 4. Why less force is required in moving object than lifting ? 10 min Watch both video main and additional Expected activity duration 10 min

In-class Activity Design -1 Learning Objective(s) of In - Class Activity Demonstration of various simple machines Key Concept(s) to be covered To learn basic principle of mechanics force transfer mechanism of simple machines and comparison of mechanism

In-class Activity Design -1 Learning Objective(s) of In-Class Activity At the end of the class, students will be able to, Understand various simple machines . comparison of different simple machines Basic concept of working of simple machines Key Concept(s) to be covered To learn basic principle of mechanics force transfer mechanism of simple machines comparison of mechanism

In-class Activity Design -2 Active Learning activity(ies) that you plan to do To construct model of various simple machines use various available simple machines which are easily available Use different toys which are example of simple machines Explain the strategy by giving details of Teacher will divide the students into groups and each group will work on different machines ,teacher will assign a machines to each group. Student will prepare a model of assigned machines to their group and will perform activity on that machines and will learn the principle of working. Justify why the above is an active learning strategy By doing activities in group (pair) students will learn the Woking principle in effective manner . Students will think about the working principle of machines. Each group will discuss their machines’ working mechanism to the class by doing this they will share knowledge

In-class Activity Design -2 TPS Strategy – What Instructor does Think (~10minutes) Teacher will divide the students into groups and each group will construct different machines ,teacher will assign a machines to each group. Student will recall the video lecture and will individually try to explain to their group the principle machine Pair (~15 minutes ) Student will prepare a model of assigned machines to their group and will perform activity on that machines and will learn the principle of working. Share (~5 minutes) 1. Each group will discuss their machines’ working mechanism to the class by doing this they will share knowledge and teacher will summarise the principles and give conclusive remark on the principles of machines and will give some real life exapmles.

In-class Activity Design -2 Justification In both the above strategies, students are required to go beyond mere listening and execution of prescribed steps. They are required to think deeply about the content they were familiarized in out-of-class and do higher order thinking. By doing activities in group (pair) students will learn the Woking principle in effective manner . Students will think about the working principle of machines. Each group will discuss their machines’ working mechanism to the class by doing this they will share knowledge There is also feedback provided (either through peer discussion or instructor summary)
