View of Toledo– El Greco(1600) This painting is one of the two surviving landscapes painted by El Greco. The other one, View and Plan of Toledo, is currently in the Museo Del Greco, Toledo, Spain.

El Greco (1541-1614) “El Greco” was just a nickname given because of his Greek origin. He was, however, born in Crete, the center of post-Byzantine art. His full name is Doménikos Theotokópoulos. He produced most of his well known art when he moved to Toledo, Spain in 1577. Painted with a dramatic and expressionistic style.

Opening of the Fifth Seal– El Greco(1614) The Opening of the Fifth Seal or The Vision of Saint John was painted in the last years of El Greco’s life for a side-altar of the church of Saint John the Baptist outside the walls of Toledo. It remains unfinished and notably damaged in some places in the Metropolitan Museum.
