Seems to be from the 90’s Ability to personalize User-friendly interface A better search tool A tutorial for new users Session ID 2057

Our approach

Our approach Old approach: Committee members representing their group (e.g. students, faculty, staff) New approach: Industry best practices for user experience (UX) design Collect and analyze feedback (surveys, discussions) Developed a master list of portlets Card sorting exercise Wireframing process User Adoption Plan Quickstart Video Coordination with IT Service Desk Home Page Tour Feedback: town meetings, SGA subcommittee, department meetings Card sorting exercise provided usability feedback (Optimal Sort) Comparison of groupings for faculty/staff/students helped determine navigation Wireframing process In several wireframing sessions, we developed navigation and portlet groupings based on card sorting results. Summary Redesign was necessary The new portal is successful because… Integration with campus applications was needed--the logical next step Old design was sorely outdated, not mobile friendly, cluttered The new portal is successful because… We learned from past experience: committee approach was not effective We got much more feedback than in the past We listened and acted on the feedback Student designers developed the new design We continue to listen and develop to address the needs of the campus Lessons Learned Development team needed greater collaboration/communication for an undertaking of this scale Load testing is critical Session ID 2057
