2 Timothy 2:14-26

Battle Instructions for 2 Timothy 2:14-26 Do not “strive about words” (2:14) Yet Paul fought with words many times (Acts 15:1-2; Galatians 2:11-14) And the Word of God is a SWORD! (Ephesians 6:17) The command not to strive about words is qualified: “To no profit” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) “To the ruin of the hearers”

Battle Instructions for 2 Timothy 2:14-26 “Shun profane and idle babblings” (2:16) Their source is unholy and earthly (2:15) They are empty and worthless (2:17-18) They are cancerous and dangerous

Battle Instructions for 2 Timothy 2:14-26 “Avoid foolish and ignorant disputes” (2:23) They generate strife (cf. Titus 3:9) They can be generated by ignorance.

Battle Instructions for 2 Timothy 2:14-26 “A Servant of the Lord Must not Quarrel” (2:24; Gal. 5:15) Approach disagreements with gentleness, patience and humility and with a desire to instruct and correct. Those who react with belligerence and a divisive attitude should be avoided (1 Timothy 6:3-5; Titus 3:9-11)
