The Cost of the Kingdom Mark 10:1-31 // Matthew 19:1-27 10/25/2015 pm Jonathan Hinds

Who can enter the kingdom? Mark 10:1-12 – Questions regarding marriage Matthew 19:10 The disciples say unto him, If the case of the man is so with his wife, it is not expedient to marry. Matthew 19:11-12 But he said unto them, Not all men can receive this saying, but they to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Who can enter the kingdom? Mark 10:13-16 – … whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it. The disciples were refusing the children; the kingdom of heaven and the teaching of Jesus were more important than to spend time with the children. Jesus was greatly displeased. Humble and faithful/trusting and innocent as a child.

Who can enter the kingdom? Mark 10:17-27 – The rich young ruler turned away from the King because of his great wealth. Verse 23 – how hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God. Verse 26 – … who then can be saved?

Who can enter the kingdom? Mark 10:28 – See we have left all and followed you. Matthew 19:27 adds – Therefore what shall we have? Followed by Matthew 20, Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard Each agreed to one amount and were paid the same. There are many who are not willing to pay the cost to be a Christian. Do our neighbors think us odd because of what we do or don’t? 1 Peter 4:3-4 “In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.” Matthew 13:44-46 – The kingdom of heaven and eternal life are worth great sacrifices in this life.

Who can enter the kingdom? Hebrews 11:13 – These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews 11:14 For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own. Hebrews 11:15 And if indeed they had been mindful of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. Hebrews 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.
