Module 7 Eating together Unit 1 When’s the school leaver’s party?

复习被动语态时态:

Teaching aim and demands: Grasp the key words and key structures: (重点) And everyone has been told to prepare a traditional dish from our own countries. It’s made with chicken or pork and vegetables. Listening skill: To understand conversations involving the use of passive voice (难点) Speaking skill: To ask and give information about one’s diet or diet habit.

Match the words with the pictures: Finger basket bread fork knife lemonade pancake serve spoon roll

Look at the party invitation and answer the questions. You’re invited to The School Leavers’ Party On Saturday 30th May at 5 pm In the school hall Bring a traditional dish—“finger food” Music and dancing ① What’s a school leavers’ party? ② What’s a traditional dish? ③ What do you think “finger food” is? ④ What else is there to do at the party?

The answers: 1. A party for students who are completing their secondary school education that year. 2. Something which belongs to the place where you live or where you’re from. 3. Food which you can eat with your hands--- you don’t need knives and forks or chopsticks. 4. Listen to music and dance.

Listen and answer the questions. Basket bread cheese fetch finger fork grapes ham knife lemonade pancake serve spoon tomato wine ① How has Tony’s mum carried the shopping? ② What has she bought? ③ What does she suggest for the school leavers’ party? In a basket. Food and drink for the family and for the party. Pancakes or pizza.

Lemonade and pizza (ham, tomatoes, cheese to make the pizza). Basket bread cheese fetch finger fork grapes ham knife lemonade pancake serve spoon tomato wine ④ What food and drink is for the family? ⑤ What food and drink is for Tony and the school leavers’ party? Grapes, bread and wine. Lemonade and pizza (ham, tomatoes, cheese to make the pizza).

Complete the table with notes. Dish Made with Betty Lingling Tony Daming (meat) cheese, bread roll hamburgers Chicken or pork and vegetables Suanla tang pizza Cheese, tomato, ham (we don’t know, but probably meat or eggs, vegetables, flour) jiaozi

Answer the questions. At home. ① How do you think Daming feel about his role at the school leavers’ party? ② Where are they going to prepare the food? ③ Why does Betty ask if Daming’s grandmother is coming to the school leavers’ party? I think he feels pleased and proud. At home. Because their school asks the students, not their relatives, to prepare the food.

④ Why do you think Tony calls pizza a traditional English dish? ⑤ Why does Betty think Shakespeare didn’t eat pizza? Because you can eat it everywhere in England. Because it is an Italian dish which wasn’t introduced into Britain then.

Language points 1. What food and drink is for the family? 句中的food and drink看成一个整体,所以谓语动词用单数。再如:a knife and fork; a horse and cart 等 2. I suppose it can be heated up in the school kitchen… heat up 意思是“加热”。再比如: Freda heated up a pie for me.

3. And everyone has been told to prepare a traditional dish from our own countries. When I was in Italy, I had a wonderful pasta dish. Do / wash the dishes 表示“清洗餐具(包括盘子、杯子、碗等)”。例如:I’ll just do the dishes before we go.

4. Oh, soup’s no good. 这里no good 表示“没(或没什么、没多大)用处(或好处)”。例如: The movie is no good, I think. There’s too much fighting. It’s no good worrying about that now. no good用法小结: A. no good doing sth It’s no good talking to him—he never listens. B. no good for sth These glasses are no good for wine. C. no good to sb. A car is no good to me, since I can’t drive.

Work in pairs . Listen and repeat. Lingling: Will we be allowed / to cook it at school, / or must it be made / at home, / and brought here? Betty: I suppose / it can be heated up / in the school kitchen , / but it should be cooked / at home.

Say the sentences aloud. Make sure you pause after each group. Betty: Pizza isn’t English! It was invented in Intaly, not England! Tony: But pizza can be eaten everywhere in England. Betty: I don’t think Shakespeare ate pizza! Now listen and check.

Work in pairs. Make plans for a party. Think about: Food and drink Decoration Music and dancing

Work with another pair. Talk about your parties, and say what plans have been made. Everyone will be asked to bring something to eat. Music will be played all evening, and dancing has been planned from 7 pm…

Everyday English: What’s that? Soup’s no good. And you? In fact… What’s that? Soup’s no good. And you? I see what you mean.

Homework: Retell the dialogue.
