Donate Life Who can donate? How do I become a donor? Anyone! The capability of the donor is decided upon death, although if you’re under 18, parent consent will be needed. How do I become a donor? Talk it over with your family members. Then go to the New York State Donate Life Registry.

Types of Donors Brain Dead (under 1% of population): due to head injuries, can donate the most organs/tissues: Heart, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, liver, intestine, bone, cartilage, skin, other tissues Cardiac Death (most deaths): due to loss of oxygen, most organs can’t be donated but most tissues can Living- Kidney, lung lobe, small intestine, bone marrow, blood, liver, pancreas

Donate Life Will organ donation delay the funeral or disfigure the body? The donation is done within the first 24 hours. Any damage that occurred is covered by the funeral curator, at most some swelling may occur.

Facts A patient waiting for a transplant can wait any length of time from a few days to several years. 2,000 people under the age of 18 are on the waiting list. 132 people are added to the waiting list everyday while only 79 organ transplants take place daily.

Donate Life Keep in mind, donating is free, but selling your organs and/or tissue is a federal crime. Talk with your family about organ/tissue donation. Sign pledge sheet and come to the Donate Life Festival.
