Are clause and sentence the same? No! A sentence is a subject, verb, and complete thought A clause is a subject and verb, not necessarily a complete thought If a clause is a complete thought, it’s called an independent clause. If it’s not, it’s dependent.

Two mains kinds of clauses If a clause is a complete thought, it’s called an independent clause. If it’s not, it’s dependent. Independent clause: can stand on its own Dependent clause: can’t stand on its own
