Reminders: Final Draft due Oct. 3rd. Grad Speeches 10/3. 15 hours due 10/20. Beowulf Test Wednesday 9/27

Essential Questions What are you looking for when you see a great speech? What makes an informative letter impressive to a panel of judges?

Warm Up: What do you think you need to change in your draft? How can you improve the delivery of your speech?

Letter to the Board

Letter to the Board A letter to the board is an introduction to your topic. It lets the judges understand what you are about to talk about and why you chose this topic. This is your first appearance and it is paramount.

GUIDELINES FOR THE LETTER TO THE REVIEW BOARD 1. The letter to the Review Board is an informative summary of the Graduation Project. It should include a personal introduction, background information, and a brief overview of the topic. 2. Remember your audience is the Review Board. 3. Copies of the letter must be provided for each review board member at the time of oral presentations. 4. The letter to the Review Board should follow standard business letter format. 5. A copy of the letter should be placed in the student portfolio.

Your Turn Go to Canvas and click on Modules. Under the “Graduation Project” section, you will see the letter to the board assignment. Download the form to see a template letter. Create a letter in that exact style and turn it in.

Peer-Editing: Speeches

Get into groups of 3 Each of you will download the scoring rubric from Canvas. Figure out who will go first in your group and recite your speech. The other two people will score you. When finished switch roles until all of you have given your speech.

Help out your classmates – Get into Groups of 3 You are going to edit two of your classmates’ speeches. You must fill out the same rubric the judges will use. After you have their score write a one paragraph justification where you give constructive feedback. Include positive aspects of their speech and negative aspects Include how you would change it (Don’t offer a problem without a solution) Share the document with the person and submit online.

Closure Turn in your letter to the board. After preparing for the speech today write down the following: 3 things you did well 3 things you need to work on
