Reflection Questions Evana Brenelus DuE: 12/17/17 Period: 3

How does your product use social groups or issues? or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

The person in the normal commercial would be thinking about how Conventions: Usually in shoe commercials, things always start off happy. The person in the normal commercial would be thinking about how comfortable the shoe is and when or where are they going to wear it. In the commercial we did, it started off upsetting because a girl was sad. She couldn’t fit in with her friends due to her shoes. Also, the video started off in black and white rather than being colorful. We started off with a girl wearing a total different brand of popular shoes than transitioned into the Vans. Social groups/issues: The social group being represented were teens who couldn’t fit into different crowds and stayed isolated because they couldn’t afford or have certain pairs of shoes growing up. The shoes we used in our commercial are affordable and most people will normally have at least one pair. The price of a shoe can sometimes become an issue for the producer’s because they wouldn’t make as much money as they hoped since their prices were too high and their designs were limited. Vans has a variety of different shoe colors and designs; so everyone would find something they like.

How does your product engage how would it be distributed as a with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

Engagement: An audience would want to engage with my product because not only is my product comfortable and pretty, it is also cheap. Everyone loves saving money! The amount they would pay for one expensive shoe could purchase about 3 pairs of Vans. Another thing that would attract an audience would be the fact that these shoes are for all ages, genders, and foot sizes. They would be able to do anything while wearing the Vans and wear them with almost anything because of the shoe’s style. They could wear it with a dress, skirt, jeans, and even pajamas. At the end of the day, they would still be comfortable while wearing my product. Distribution: I would probably start off by distributing my product on the radio because if I were to make it sound interesting enough, people would want to know what the product looks like. After that, I would make a commercial that would air on TV and share it on social media. People would also be able to search it up online.

How did your production throughout this project? skills develop throughout this project?

Throughout this project, I had to consider the weather outside, do blogs, and think of many ideas. Time hadn’t been an issue for this project since it was done in class. Just like my last project, I had to blog my storyboard before being able to use a camera or tripod from my teacher. I also had to blog my journey throughout recording and editing this commercial. Weather consideration became important because the day I recorded, it was raining prior to our class period. Thankfully, the rain had stopped and outside had cleared. When I first started this project my group and I were unsure of what message we wanted to put out there and how would we make our commercial different from the normal shoe commercials. While recording and editing, we used our prior knowledge from the last project but we learnt two new things. We learnt how to do a split screen (it turned out really nice) and how to add voiceovers.

How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware and online- in this project?

Hardware: To blog, I only used my laptop Hardware: To blog, I only used my laptop. To edit, I had to use a computer during class in order to use the editing software. A camera and tripod were used to record the commercial. Online: I used WordPress online to do my blogs. YouTube and a mp3 converter were used to download the song being used in the commercial. Software: Pinnacle Studio is the software that was used to edit everything. It allowed me to cut the song, add the voice over, and do a split screen.
