5.1 Start the Plan Now SUMMARY Chapter 5 5.1 Start the Plan Now SUMMARY Making a career decision now allows a person to choose courses, add skill sets, and increase specialized skills. The decision-making process has six steps: Recognize that one must make a decision. Identify the benefits of making a good decision. Consider all possible decisions. Make a decision. Create a plan to carry out the decision. Monitor the success of the decision. A fulfilling career will result if a person’s P*A*T*H to Success is the basis for his or her career.

5.2 Career Decisions SUMMARY Chapter 5 5.2 Career Decisions SUMMARY Self-understanding is necessary before one can make an informed career choice. The 16 career clusters are groups of careers that have common interest and skill requirements. Studying the clusters for career possibilities will give one the understanding to make an educated career choice.

5.3 Creating Your Internal Career Design SUMMARY Chapter 5 5.3 Creating Your Internal Career Design SUMMARY Using the characteristics of each career cluster will help a person create a career plan that best matches one’s P*A*T*H to Success. Evaluating possible careers in a chosen career cluster will help narrow the choices. Setting goals will help create plans for education and training and additional skill sets and specialized skills. To help with planning, a person should organize the contents of the Career Portfolio, which contains evidence of achievements. Reviewing the success of the decision periodically will help monitor the success of the career plan.
