Insurance Costs Factors used to determine your premium: Topic 1 Lesson 5 Factors used to determine your premium: Your Age, Marital Status, Driving Record, and Grades Age: Because young drivers statistically are involved in more crashes, their rates are higher. Type of Car Gender: Men have more crashes than women, therefore their raters are higher. Deductible: raising the amount of the deductible will lower the premium. Driving Record: Insurance companies have a point system for violations. As points increase, so do rates. Vehicle equipment: Many companies will give a discount for vehicles with safety equipment such as ABS, side air bags, etc. T – 10.17

Price + taxes + interest = Monthly payment # of months $10,000.00 +$350.00 +$1200.00* 24 = $481.25 *1st year interest = $10,000 x .08 = $800 *2nd year interest = $5,000 x .08 = $400 T – 10.29a

Planning an Extended Trip Preparing the vehicle Loading considerations: A car top carrier will raise the center of gravity of the vehicle, causing it to be more likely to roll over in abrupt steering situations or on sloped roadways.

Planning an Extended Trip Safety: Since two out of three fatal crashes occur at night, avoid driving after dark when visibility is limited and particularly after 11pm when you are fatigued and more apt to fall asleep. When driving alone, never drive more than 6 to 8 hours. When there are two or more drivers, total driving time should not exceed 10-11 hours. Know your circadian rhythm. Basic and emergency equipment needs: Most vehicles get about 21-25% more miles per gallon at 50 mph than at 70mph.

Conserving Virginia’s Natural Resources Disposal of Vehicle Parts and Fluids Hazardous substances such as oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, and brake fluid; need to be disposed of in the proper manner -- not just dumped onto the ground or poured down the drain. take items to the nearest hazard waste collection center or other appropriate collection location such as an automotive repair shop; or contact your local health department to find an appropriate drop-off location.
