St Luke’s Church of England School Newsletter 24 June 2016 Message from Mrs Tyler I am pleased to be able to tell you about the staffing arrangements for September 2016.   Mrs Clare Fall has been appointed as our new Headteacher.  Mrs Fall has been Assistant Headteacher and a member of the senior leadership team at Kentish Town C of E School for a number of years. Kentish Town School is an excellent Camden Church of England School and I know that St Luke's School will benefit from all the experience that she brings. The governors were very pleased to have a strong field and a competitive interview day and the decision to appoint Mrs Fall was unanimous. We are very fortunate that we have had excellent staff stability at St Luke’s, with only one teacher moving on since the school opened in September 2012.  However, two ‘long-standing’ members of staff will be leaving us at the end of this term.  Mrs Patel will be retiring and Mrs O’Rourke has been appointed as a part-time teacher at a school five minutes from her home.  Mrs O’Rourke has been at St Luke’s since day one, with Mrs Patel joining the following year – both have given so much of themselves to our school and have been integral in making St Luke’s what it is today.  I know the whole school community will want to wish both Anila and Kara well for the future and thank them for their hard work and commitment to the school over the past five years.   We are fortunate that all other staff will be staying on at St Luke’s, which means only one class will have a new teacher.  Mrs Wickham, an experienced primary school teacher, will be joining our staff team as KS1 class teacher.  Helen has worked alongside Mrs Fall for several years at Kentish Town Church of England School and she has many skills to bring to St Luke’s. Finally, congratulations to Mr Stephenson who has been appointed as Deputy Headteacher, following a rigorous interview process.  Our new staff team is as follows: SLS Concert – Thursday 7th July For the concert we would also appreciate a little help with clothing. Please bring the named clothes in BY Tuesday 5th July. Thank you. Reception: we have costumes for the children at school Y1: yellow t-shirt (same as for Olympic Week), any colour trousers or skirt Y2: blue t-shirt (same as for Olympic Week), jeans and baseball hats and shades! Y3: we have costumes for the children at school Y4: party clothes – the more colourful the better SLS Church Service – Sunday 10th July at 11am A couple of parents have asked me to clarify if we would like all children and their families to attend the Celebration Service on Sunday 10th September. The answer is YES PLEASE! All the children will be involved in the short service and it would be wonderful to have everyone together to mark the five years celebration since the school was opened. Olympic Week – last week of term We are planning our Olympic Week for the last week of term. On the Monday 11th July, we will hold an opening ceremony and we would like the children to wear a plain t-shirt in the colours which make up the Olympic rings. Please bring the named clothes in BY Friday 8th July. Thank you. Reception: Red Y1: Yellow Y2: Blue Y3: Green Y4: Black Parents’ Survey Thank you to everyone who completed our Parents’ Survey – a hard copy of the results has been sent out in the children’s book bags today. Summer Fair - Saturday 2nd July, 12:30-3:30pm. PFA Meeting on 27th June, 9am to organise the fair – everyone very welcome!

Thank you! KS2 Certificate of Merit Year 3 Gaia for working collaboratively with others. Year 4 Odile for thinking about her own and others’ learning. KS2 Maths Mascot Max for much improved Maths skills. KS1 Maths Monkey Maths Monkey has gone to Monkey school and will be back in September with lots of new Maths ideas. News from Reception This week we have been thinking about Pirates, with the children writing a list of things we will need in the role-play area, as well as designing and making their own pirate waistcoats. They have been researching books to find out what pirates wear and what they do and the children have had some great ideas for the role-play decoration. Next week we will use these ideas to decorate the inside and outside areas as well as using stories as a stimulus for writing and maths problem solving. At other times this week, we have used the Julia Donaldson book ‘Tiddler’ to write imaginative fish stories, we have used sand to explore capacity and the balances to find out if objects are heavy, light or equal. The children are really enjoying the dance practices with Mrs Dolbear – please practise your child’s poem lines at home as we will begin rehearsing these next week too! News from KS1 We have had another fun filled week in KS1. The children had a wonderful day with Pauline Hazelwood on Thursday. They learned what it is like to be an artist and experimented with paints, drawing and colour. They learned how to use a light table and used lots of other new equipment. To inspire our painting, we used our senses to write interesting sentences about the sea in English. The children used lots of descriptive words to describe the seaside. We will be using these next week in our seaside poems. In Maths we have been drawing and interpreting graphs. The children made a bar graph and tally chart of their favourite ice cream flavours. Surprisingly lemon was the most popular! News from KS2 We have had a jam-packed week in Key Stage Two. Year 4 have now settled in to their new home-places and cubbies. It’s great that in a school of our size, we are able to transition in this way. Year 3 and 4 have been practising their dances for the end of year concert with Mrs Dolbear – you’re in for a treat! Finally, this week has been our assessment week. We have used tests, children’s comments, books and our own teacher judgements to assess the children’s progress. These will be reported to you in their end of year progress reports. Dates for Diary (Summer term) 2015-16 and 2016-17 term dates are on the school website.
