LAR Master Gunner Course Purpose: The purpose of this program of instruction is to provide a Marine with the knowledge and skills required to serve as a Master Gunner in a Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. The focus of this course is to train Light Armored Reconnaissance Master Gunners to develop and supervise a Light Armored Reconnaissance unit gunnery training plan. The Master Gunner serves as the duty expert in weapons employment and maintenance procedures associated with the LAV-25 series vehicle. The course provides detailed instruction on Surface Danger Zones (SDZ's), Risk Management (RM), Unit Training Management (UTM), Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) training devices, LAV weapon systems, and LAV gunnery standards/training techniques. The course culminates with a Master Gunner assessment exercise where the students execute a unit gunnery training plan that they have developed. Light Armored Reconnaissance Master Gunners Course Task List: -2000 Level: -Supervise LAV turret crew operations -Manage LAV training systems -Supervise LAV gunnery -Conduct LAV crew evaluator training Methodology: The course combines simulation based training, classroom lecture, practical application and a one week live-fire train the trainer exercise. The course culminates with a Master Gunner assessment exercise during which the students develop and brief a detailed six month gunnery training plan for a LAR battalion. Course Length: 7 Weeks / 54 days/ 40 Training Days
