Japanese animation and research Jack Hudson Japanese animation and research

Why I chose this topic Massive anime geek over 100 gig worth of the stuff I already know a lot about anime so thought that would help me search I thought I could find something I’d like to read

Starting with library search Starting with a quick search for any books or eBooks. The search turned up a book about how anime is not just for kids(according to the summary). Unfortunately it is not available as an eBook.

So I refined my search to find eBooks only. Possibly due to it being an none academic subject there was no results. I will use a different search engine now.

Google Scholar As you can see mostly useless results. The Wikipedia page could be good place to start but the YouTube videos and pictures are useless. So under the More tab I selected Scholar option.

As you can see the results already seem more useful As you can see the results already seem more useful. Showing books and more useful websites to go visit. Google Scholar has already proved useful in turning out an eBook version of the book I found in the library search.

Refining search I can choose the year from when I wish to search from since the last book I found was from 2005 I decided to search after that for more recent results. I refined my search further by entering a key word “ghibli” a well known Japanese animation studio.

I hit a bit of a dead end with a few more searches so I decided to search the names of studios I have heard of or am a fan of. After a few searches a PDF turned up which appeared to be an essay.

Other books found The first two books are on anime as a culture and themes that appear throughout anime. The final book I found was about the people who work in animation in japan and their conditions I think this could be an interesting read.
