Digital Television Dr. Nikos Desypris, ndessipris@yahoo.com Dr. Vassilis Tsetsos, btsetsos@mobics.gr Oct. 2017 Postgraduate course University of Athens

Course Outline Digital Television System (N. Dessipris, 6 weeks) IPTV & programming iTV applications (V. Tsetsos, 6 weeks) Group assignments (1 week)

Course brief description Pre-requisites: Basic concepts of digital processing and IP protocols desirable, but not necessary Presents concepts and applications related to commercial Television Systems Provides information on image processing and the human visual system Covers digital terrestrial, cable, satellite TV and IPTV. Half of the course is devoted to IPTV, including IPTV services and technologies Course evaluation mainly through ‘assignments’

Convergence From analogue TV and data transmission as distinct parallel paths, to complete disappearance of distinction between data and television! For historical and practical reasons, in this course digital TV and IPTV are presented separately I
