WHY ARE INSPECTIONS PERFORMED? AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION!

WHAT IS AN INSPECTOR? DEFINITION: “The inspector is a trained person who performs an inspection of persons, entities, records, or objects to ensure compliance with the law, rules,regulations or codes.”

JOB REQUIREMENTS Receives training Inspects, scrutinizes, examines Ensures compliance Protects the public

PUBLIC RELATIONS “The inspector is often the licensee’s and the public’s only contact with the agency. The inspector is most important to enforcement programs because he or she is the eyes and ears of the agency. QUESTION: IS IT OUR JOB TO ENSURE THAT THE LICENSEE KNOWS THE REGULATIONS AND RULES?

SUMMARY OF INSPECTIONS Inspections are performed for the health, safety and welfare of the public. The source of authority for inspectors includes; legislation, court action and implied consent. The role of the inspector includes acting as the eyes and ears of the agency AND responding to questions of the licensee thereby assisting with compliance. The exit interview is critical and should be given major consideration.
