PHYSICAL TRAINING GCSE PE

CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE AGILITY SPEED REACTION TIME CONTINUOUS CO-ORDINATION CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE POWER INTERVAL BALANCE FLEXIBILITY MUSUCLAR ENDURANCE CIRCUIT MAXMAL STRENGTH STRENGTH MSFT PLYOMETRIC 11.05-11.15

The ability to move and change direction quickly at speed whilst maintaining control The maintenance of the centre of mass over the base of support The ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the working muscles Used to test cardiovascular endurance The ability to use two or more parts of the body together smoothly and efficiently Training method that incorporates periods of work followed by periods of rest The ability of a muscle or muscle group to undergo repeated contractions avoiding fatigue The product of strength and speed The range of movement possible at a joint A series of exercise performed one after the other with a rest in between The time taken to initiate a response to a stimulus The ability to overcome a resistance Exercising for a sustained period of time without rest – steady state The maximum rate at which an individual is able to perform a movement or cover a distance in a period of time.

HOMEWORK Green = good Yellow = let’s not do that again Red = not so good 11.15-11.20

PRINCIPLES OF TRAINING 11/09/17 Identify the five principles of training (4-5) Define key terms and describe the principle of overload (6-7) Apply the principles of training to improve fitness and apply to sporting examples (8-9)   11.20-11.25

INDIVIDUAL THINKING TASK - SILENCE My grandma wants to run in the 5km race for life in 6 weeks time. Bullet plan a training programme for her. Why have you planned what you have done? What considerations have you had to make? 11.25-11.30

SPECIFICITY Specific – Training specific to the sport being played/movement used/muscles used/energy system (s) used. Dancer applies specificity to their training program by using flexibility. 11.30-11.40 What is the definition of Flexibility? Can you think of another example?

Can you think of another example? PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD Gradual increase of the amount of overload so that fitness gains occur, but without potential injury. Overload is working harder than normal. Weight Training – Adjust weight to increase the intensity of an exercise and enable progressive overload. Can you think of another example? Plateau - fitness remains constant and does not improve despite training being done

Can you think of another example? REVERSIBILITY Losing fitness levels when you stop exercising. Still training 2-3 times a week can prevent this. Warming up and cooling down – another way to prevent this. Injury – Most common way for reversibility to occur. Can you think of another example?

TEDIUM Boredom that can occur from training the same way every time. Variety is needed. Combination training!! Variety is needed to increase motivation levels and keep them high.

PRINCIPLE OF OVERLOAD (FITT) FREQUENCY – How often you train INTENSITY – How hard you train TIME - How long you train for TYPE - The specific method of training 11.40-11.45 Draw a picture for each of the four components (FITT)

HOW COULD YOU VARY CIRCUIT TRAINING? VARY INTENSITY – MAX HR? HOW COULD YOU VARY CIRCUIT TRAINING?

TIMED PAIR SHARE – 60 SECONDS Identify the five principles of training (4-5) Define key terms and describe the principle of progressive overload (6-7) Apply the principles of training to improve fitness and apply to sporting examples (8-9) 11.45-11.50

Anything not complete will be given as homework ADDITIONAL TASK: Watch MY PE EXAM video and complete quiz – principles of training MG1 – case study Using ‘The Principles of Training’ SPORT/FITT & google classroom resources Design a training program to improve your own fitness in your chosen sport. You should include: Identify a component of fitness you want to improve What type of training method are you going to use to improve this? Apply FITT principle Apply SPORT principle A4 sheet in DETAIL – could create a table for a 6 week program (example) How are you going to know you have improved? Anything not complete will be given as homework

HOMEWORK DUE – 14TH THURSDAY Finish off training program – send to me
