Behavior Plan Flow Charts Making positive behavior support plans painless for all those involved in our students progress

Goal Create a useful and effective way to disseminate information to multiple teachers about a student’s PBSP. Create a visual representation that can serve as a quick “reference guide” for implementing PBSP consistently across multiple teachers who service one individual student. Improve treatment integrity.

What is a Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP)? According to the National Association of School Psychologists a PBSP is an empirically validated, function-based approach to eliminate challenging behaviors and replace them with pro-social skills.  Use of PBS decreases the need for more intrusive or aversive interventions (i.e., punishment or suspension) and can lead to both systemic as well as individualized change. PBS can target an individual student or an entire school, as it does not focus exclusively on the student, but also includes changing environmental variables such as the physical setting, task demands, curriculum, instructional pace and individualized reinforcement.  Thus it is successful with a wide range of students, in a wide range of contexts, with a wide range of behaviors. http://www.nasponline.org

Why a flow chart and why not a BIP?** Ease of read, PBSP is “too much to read” Less intimidating Quicker to use as reference for problem behavior “User friendly” Less interpretation = more consistency and less room for error! **This does NOT replace BIP, only supports it

BIPFC (Behavior Intervention Plan – Flow Chart) ODD’s Flow Chart 2013/2014 FBA's Flow Chart 2013/2014 Includes: target behavior(s), teacher’s response, antecedent strategies, consequences, etc…

Outcome? Actually quite easy! More user friendly. Many preferred keeping the BIPFC as a quick reference guide. Greater acceptance by most to all team members. Students able to grasp expectations and consequences better!
