At the end of each unit there is an assessment that will be given to monitor student progress. Fundations Fundations is the phonics/spelling program that was implemented last year. We will continue with the 2nd grade edition this year. The program consists of the following 6 components: Phonemic Awareness Phonics and Word Study Vocabulary Development Reading Fluency Comprehension Strategies Spelling and Handwriting Parent letters will go home with your child at the beginning of each unit to inform you of what we will be covering in that unit. Snack Assessments Snack time in 2nd grade is in the morning as we don’t have lunch until 12:00. ** Due to allergies within the grade, please do not send peanuts or peanut butter snack items for classroom snacks. These types of snacks can be eaten during lunch time as there is a peanut free table. Students should only bring water to drink during snack time. Benchmark assessments are given 3 times a year: September, January, and May for Reading and Math We look forward to having a wonderful year with you and your child.
