Music Home Learning Menu – Year 8 Each half term you must complete one task from the unit you are studying. Unit 3: Indian Classical Music Create a sixteen-beat drum pattern (tala) that you could add to your group composition. Read the story of Rama and Sita. http://www.bbc.co.uk/learning/schoolradio/subjects/collectiveworship/collectiveworship_stories/festivals/diwali Think of how you could portray this story in music. Research some traditional Indian instruments. What instruments do we have in our music department that you could use to imitate this sound? How would the instruments need to be played to create the right sound? Unit 4: Programme Music Listen to ‘Danse Macabre’ by Saint-Saëns. Without looking up the story, draw a picture or write a story based on how the music makes you feel. Research instruments that would work well in your composition. Try: http://www.bbc.co.uk/orchestras/learn/guidetotheorchestra/ Find, build or draw a picture of the animal you are basing your piece of music on. Bring it to lessons to inspire you as you compose your music.
