Let’s Blog . . . Using a Blog as a Communication Tool

Sharepoint has the capability to create three different types of blogs: Teacher Personal Teacher Site Student Personal 4th is being developed: student learning reflection created in ePortfolios

Blogs can be a useful way to share information and interact with students and parents via the comments section. 

They can be updated on a daily basis, weekly OR when new information is needed to be presented to the parents.

Interface The blog on consists of the following features: Post Date Insert Tab Categories Archive Comments

Multiple types of files can be added to the blog in a very easy manner. Documents (.docx; .pdf), pictures, videos, YouTube videos (embedded) and links can all be added and access easily through the “Insert” tab.

The font, colour, size and style can all be changed through here. Text can be formatted just like in a word document from the “Text” tab. The font, colour, size and style can all be changed through here.

These categories can be customized according to teacher requirements. Posts can be dated, created ahead of time to be “published” later and can be tagged for easy search index later. These categories can be customized according to teacher requirements.

Blogs can also be used by students Blogs can also be used by students. Permissions can be amended so that they can share their blogs with each other. They can be used to share information, collaborate with other students or have a space to write reflections on their learning.

Once the capability to create blogs within the ePortfolio is enabled, students will have the ability to demonstrate their learning in one more format. This will be part of their online digital record of their school years.
