Introductions Ellen Colket – TJ Women’s Coach ecpenny@msn.com 301-606-0807 Parent of 2 Student Athletes (Swimmers) Swimmer, parent of swimmers or official for almost five decades. 15+ years on-deck official at High School, Age group, Senior Swimming, Masters and Special Olympics and Wounded Warriors meets. Nationally certified USA Referee, CJ, Starter and S&T official Will Goundry – TJ Men’s Coach wilbur@terpmail.umd.edu 301-788-4970 Thomas Johnson Swimmer from 2006-2010 and Team Captain in 2010. 10+ years Swimming Experience with 4 years coaching experience. Ex- Head Coach of Spring Ridge Sharks We, your Coaching Staff, are CPR and AED Certified. Additionally, we have been trained to handle concussions, heat acclimatization issues as well as first aid.
Coaching Philosophy & Expectations We are creating an environment: where all swimmers can succeed to the best of their abilities and talents and build high self-esteem in each athlete whereby the entire team is supportive of every other member where we are working on life skills and opportunities for personal growth – i.e., working together in a group, sportsmanship, determination, work ethic, commitment and courage where swimmers are striving for personal improvement and reaching time standards beyond their current capacity where the support, dedication, and knowledge of the parents and guardians of these athletes is needed
Coaching Philosophy & Expectations Athletes complete and turn in the physical and athletics paperwork as well as Code of Conduct prior to first practice (16-Nov). Athletes arrive 5-10 minutes in advance of practice start time to allow for changing and getting organized for practice. Athletes bring (at least 12 oz) Water or Gatorade to drink during practice and meet in order to stay hydrated. Swim practices are 90 minutes and consist of in water as well as Dry-land drills - including dynamic and static stretching. All athletes participate with integrity, make the right choices, support one another and fulfills his/her potential.
Goals for the Season Provide a meaningful experience for our student-athletes with opportunities for physical, social, emotional, and mental growth that aid these athletes in all other aspects of their lives Emphasize the importance of academics, time management, and a balanced life Learn how to win – and lose – with grace Create an atmosphere that is conducive to hard work and learning, while still emphasizing fun
