A proper job with a proper employer - many of Scotland’s biggest and best businesses are involved. Each year there are more than 25,500 Modern Apprenticeship starts in Scotland – which will increase to 30,000 by 2020. Over 15,000 companies offer Modern Apprenticeships, including many of Scotland’s top employers. As well as large national companies – small to medium sized companies and family firms across Scotland also offer apprenticeships. Modern Apprenticeships can be for new or existing employees.

There are a massive range of apprenticeships available depending on what you want to do - everything from engineering and construction to health and social care, automotive and digital technology. Apprenticeships are not just for boys – last year 41 per cent of apprentices were females. Different apprenticeships take different lengths of time to complete – some can take up to four years.

A real job that earns you real pay. Modern Apprenticeships are jobs with structured training. Employers pay the wages and SDS contributes towards the cost of training. UK Government sets the national minimum wage for apprentices – but many employers pay above this.

Gaining skills and hands-on experience you work towards a qualification that is valued by industry and can get your career moving. Modern Apprenticeships are designed with industry – so the skills apprentices learn are the ones that employers want.

Level 5 Apprenticeship Level 4 Level 3 Level 2 Honours Degree to Masters Equivalent to: HND to Ordinary Degree Higher Advanced Higher National 5 There are four different levels of qualification available from National 5 to Honours or Masters degree level – so there are opportunities to progress and develop.
