Problem area Ethiopia has over 33 public universities and these Universities in Ethiopia do not have repositories to publish research papers, Student thesis and other publications and to be visible in the national and international research community. Thus, achieving the following has been impossible Getting resources on previously conducted researches Or having information about theses with high socio economic value for Ethiopia if implemented on large scale Or checking if a title for thesis has already been published and if so how much is covered in the topic and which university it was published on Or providing citability and authorship Or visibility to the international science and research community Or having an international Digital Object Identifier for their publications Or having a repository with localized content 3

Problem area By providing EthERNet Research & Education Repository through the educational private cloud the universities can leverage the rich functionalities that will be offered through the Sci-GaIA Open access repository’s underlying Invenio platform. This application will leverage parts of a use case issued by Mr. Yosef Abate and Mr. Behailu Korma in the Sci-GaIA hackfest conducted in Lagos Naigeria. 4

The users identified in this application are Scientific Researchers Workflow The users identified in this application are Scientific Researchers Students Under Graduate Graduate PhD and all other university Communities The above users will be able to: Login through a federated identity provider Submit research papers, Thesis, and other publications based on the categories that will be provided for their respective institutions Search through the entire repository through a simple search interface with simple filters Search through the entire repository through Advanced search interface with Advanced filters Find similar research papers, thesis, and publications that could be useful for their own 5

Data model Since the application fully adapts the Sci-GaIA open access repository all publications, Research papers and thesis papers will be submitted and stored On search and retrieval, the returned records will be provided to the users. 6

the computing model that will be applied will be: Computing model and technologies used Since EthERNet Repository is developed to be deployed on the EthERNet’s educational private cloud the computing model that will be applied will be: Persistent cloud computing (private cloud) I will be adopting The Invenio v1.2.1 powered Sci-GaIA Open Access Repository technology that will be cloned to EthERNet’s Science Gateway to EthERNet’s needs . 7
