3D Modelling Mech Pre-Production

Scenario Your task is to plan for the creation of a believable, mechanical, digital 3D model to be used as a worthwhile asset in a computer game. Review a range of Mechanical models used in digital media and consider the originality of your concept and ensure it is not based on any existing designs. Use early concept generation techniques to explore potential avenues of exploration, such as mind maps and mood boards, select promising ideas from your research collected and generate sketches to show that you understand how it works and how it could be modelled. Produce visual material to show all aspects of your mech. Consider aspects like how it will be able to move and explain any modification to your methods as develop your concepts.

My Response When I decide on what my Mech will look like I will create three or four drawings and then go onto a final design incorporating all the best assets into one. I will also draw specific assets in different media styles to decide on which style I will further use to enhance and provide the best quality to my mech. I may use ideas and assets taken from images I have found that I would like to incorporate and edit into my Mech like the weapons, style or design. My mech’s maybe designed in the style or war torn and battle hardened as I enjoy that sort of design and drawing. My Mech will be very battered, broken in places with loose wires and missing parts etc. however the style may change towards another theme later on.

Mind map

Moodboard I have edited my images on Photoshop to show how the images could be changed to fit into the theme of war torn and battle-hardened. I have tried to make these images look rusty (or start to rust) by using a light-medium brown and the use of blue to emphasize what the Mech could be used for. My mech would have large amount of rust on its metal plating combined with loose wires and broken/missing components.

Research. The images in this Research have intrigued me in the way of design. I want to focus on the idea of war and combat when making my Mech I will take ideas on where to place weapons and certain armour from these initial images.
