SUPERVISOR:PROF. DR. ZURAIDAH MOHD ZAIN University Malaysia Perlis School of Manufacturing Engineering MSc Manufacturing system engineering APPLICATION OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES IN UNIMAPS’ SOLAR SHADE DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION PROGRAM (SSDIP) SUPERVISOR:PROF. DR. ZURAIDAH MOHD ZAIN Prepared by :SUHA IBRAHEEM HAMAD Matric: 1532421567

Introduction In today's climate of growing energy needs and increasing environmental concern, alternatives to the use of non- renewable and polluting fossil fuels have to be investigated. One such alternative is solar energy. The use of solar energy has been on the increase lately.

Problem Statement The university’s electricity bill is too high, and hence there is a need to find ways to reduce it While there is so much potential in harnessing the power of the sun, unfortunately, there has been no research done on how to carry it out effectively At the moment, there is no proper shade for cars that are parked in the library parking space Design and development projects carried out in UniMAP do not use proper Project Management principles.

OBJECTIVES The objectives of the study are given below: 1. To design a solar shade structure to be used in the University Library carpark. 2. To develop an implementation action plan to run the project 3. To use project management (PM) tools in the planning and implementation of the project.

SCOPE The study is limited to: Theoretical planning and implementation only. The use of simulated / extrapolated data only. Calculations of electricity cost savings in UniMAP Pauh Putra campus only.

LITERATURE REVIEW Commonly used project management (PM) tools – PDCA, WBS, PERT, Gantt Chart, Risk Analysis, Budgeting, xxxx, xxxxx, etc Case studies on the application of solar PV – University of Florida, California University, Arizona State University, Colorado State University, New Mexico State University , University of Vermont , Washington University .

Sketch of Design A for a high degree of module efficiency, a long service life and high yields.

Illustration of a solar forest

Illustration of Design C

Selection of Best Solar Design Design A had been chosen as the best design compared to Design B and Design C because of some advantages that Design A have. 1. The location of this project is in main library and at this location already have parking areas but no shades. 2. the Design A give an appropriate cost and also this design is easy and no complexity of the design. With this design, there are not many works required compared to other designs. 3. the solar cell (solar panel) are available in the markets and also in the case they need some maintenance in the future, it is easier to get maintenance compared to other designs such as Design B; solar forest.

Still To Do Improve design of Solar Shade Develop more PM documents Increase efficiency of ….. Reduce cost from RM4 million to RM 3 milion Reduce time frame to complete project from 3 years to 2.5 years Develop more PM documents ..
