CONTACT PRECAUTIONS BEFORE entering UPON leaving Staff must wear gloves and gowns to enter room. BEFORE entering Disinfect hands with alcohol gel (includes visitors) 2. Put on gown 3. Put on gloves UPON leaving 1. Remove gloves 2.Remove gown 3. Disinfect hands with alcohol gel (includes visitors) Do not remove sign until after room has been terminally cleaned 4/01/12

COMMON DISEASES REQUIRING THIS SIGN CONTACT PRECAUTIONS 1. Gloves and gown must be worn by staff to enter the room. 2. A private room is required. If private room unavailable, page Infection Control 11482. 3. Special airflow rooms are not necessary. Door may remain open. 4. Gowns and gloves are removed immediately after use. 5. Hands disinfected with alcohol gel before putting on gloves and when leaving room. 6. For patient transport outside room, wounds must be covered and body fluids contained. The patient should wear a clean outer cover gown and disinfect his/her hands. The department to which the patient is to be taken should be notified that Contact Precautions are required. 7. Visitors should disinfect their hands when leaving the patient’s room. Visitors who will enter more than one patient’s room should use the precautions for healthcare workers outlined on the front of this card.
