20. PLOT SUMMARY “A Plot Summary is a retelling of the story using specific literary devices.”

A plot summary is important because it highlights specific plot points of a story and analyzes their meaning. Plot summaries also use literary devices such as: Setting, Rising Action, Climax, and Theme to explain and examine the story’s significance.

Plot summaries are difficult for students because it forces them to organize their thinking while also implementing key literary terms effectively.

The plot summary has great ‘real world’ application as it displays real critical thinking skills such as defining, explaining, exampling, and describing.

Think of a story you know very well. Write a plot summary about it. Look at the Plot Summary example and write in your journal. BRAINSTORM
