My idea for a music video Task 2- Pitch Brogan Kennedy

Conventions of a music video: A wide variety of camera shots and movement. Lighting to influence the mood. Linear of Fragmented narrative. Possible use of an episodic narrative, has beginning and end but broken up into smaller sections. Disjuncture-Video has nothing to do with the song. Performance based- Band is seen performing to song to an audience. Performance shots may also be included in a narrative music video. Can be used to portray the literal meaning of the song or metaphors.

Conventions of a pop punk music video: Artists performing alone in a room/ to a crowd of fans. Clothing reflects the genre- black jeans, vans/converse, band merchandise of the artist. Movement and energy is often portrayed in performance based videos in shots of the crowd. Backgrounds/backdrops are used to compliment the performance, not to distract. It's not rare for pop punk videos to feature a narrative to illustrate the song as their songs are often written in a story like form.

Neck Deep- I hope this comes back to haunt you Taken from their 2015 alum 'Life's Not Out To Get You' Is a heartbreak song about a rough breakup. Doesn't have a video for it yet so I feel as though I'd be able to put my own meaning to the video. The song has similarities to a Blink 182 heartbreak song (I miss you) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo-_6SWkMoE

Narrative: As the song is about heartbreak I want to use a female as the main character who is trying to keep a hold of a broken relationship between her and a mysterious boy who the audience never actually get to see. It will be an episodic style narrative where it starts with the end of her relationship, followed by the grieving period of losing her 'boyfriend' and reviewing their messages. She comes to the realisation that she was in a controlling relationship. The end is where she has finally moved on. The audience then sees the metaphorical message of the song. There will be similar shots to 'The All-American Rejects-Dirty Little Secret' with their text messages printed out and placed into shots of the video.

Setting/Location: Worthing beach/ A seafront for the beginning and end of the video. Goring Gap Bedroom styled in the generic pop punk way- Posters, Messy appearance, Merchandise.

https://uk.pinterest.com/kennedybrogan/inspiration-for-music-video/ Inspiration: https://uk.pinterest.com/kennedybrogan/inspiration-for-music-video/ This mood board I created on pinterest shows a variety of images and aesthetics which have helped to inspire the type of shots I would like to include and the settings/ locations that would fit in with the genre of music videos.

Characters: The main protagonist is a girl who is overcoming a breakup by looking back at past messages they had sent each other. She is I have decided to ask my friend Saskia to be the main character for my music video. She has the stereotypical appearance of a pop punk fan -Blue hair -Wears band merchandise and Converse -Is an actual fan of Neck Deep The male role is unknown as all communication between 'him' and the female lead will be through messaging.

Technical Aspects: Looking at past Neck Deep music videos, it's clear to see a typical trend in the type of music videos they produce. A large majority of them are performance based, either filmed at festivals they’ve played at or in a basement. They’ve had a music video for their song 'Growing pains' which is a narrative. -The video parodies 1990s popular culture, based around "simple, universal themes that anyone can relate to: adolescence, love and friendship" I would like to use similar editing technique that they have used by layering a filter over the footage to give it a 90's feel even though the technology seen in my video will be modern.

Technical Aspects: I'm planning to edit the audio of the song to blend in with diegetic sound from the footage in the beach scene (waves) and to also extend the interlude in the bridge to make sure the music video does fit the criteria to be over 3 minutes. The camera angles I want to use are mainly close up, establishing and over the shoulder shots. Since the main focus will be on the messages which the girl had received.

Target audience: Demographics: Appeals to both male and female although a majority of the audience are female Aged between 14-25 (teenagers to young adults) No particular race Psychographics: People interested in pop punk music, but also has an interest in other sub genres of rock such as indie and post-hardcore Use music as an escape from the daily grind Big users of social media like twitter, facebook, youtube and instagram Classed as outsiders and explorers,
