 The branch of mathematics dealing with the relations of the sides and angels of triangles and with the relevant functions of any angels.

 Trigonometry originally came from geometry but extended out to explore more in circles, triangles, waves and other shapes.

 Hipparchus- 150 BC  Ptolemy- 100 AD (expanded Hipparchus’ work)  Although Trigonometry cannot be credited to just one person or nation, because it has been worked on and expanded so much over the years, it did originate in India as just a measurement of angles and how they “worked”

 Sine Function: sin(θ) = Opposite / Hypotenuse  Cosine Function: cos(θ) = Adjacent / Hypotenuse  Tangent Function: tan(θ) = Opposite / Adjacent --Simply one side divided by the other.  “Sine Cosine and Tangent.” Copyright mathisfun.com

 Cosecant Function: csc(θ) = Hypotenuse / Opposite  Secant Function: sec(θ) = Hypotenuse / Adjacent  Cotangent Function: cot(θ) = Adjacent / Opposite “Sine Cosine and Tangent.” Copyright mathisfun.com

X squared + Y squared =1 All the trig functions are connected by the unit circle.

 I found a few videos on youtube.com under “Trigonometry in the world” that I would suggest looking back over to learn more about the subject.

 knot.org/whatis/whatistrigonometry.shtml 

 Land Surveyors- use trig. to get the exact measurements of land, without measuring it all. They use computers and trig operations to figure out these certain measurements to put in deeds, wills, and on maps.

 Architecture- use trigonometry to calculate exact intersections of their structures to reassure that it is safely built and stable.

 Astronomy- Trigonometry is used in this field of work to measure the distance to a star from a certain point or from planet to planet by using a trigonometric function.

 State Police- (Accident Reconstruction) After an accident expertly trained groups of accident reconstruction troopers investigate. It is very important that these troopers know trig functions to calculate blood spatter, how far the vehicle went between flips, and even how fast the vehicle was going before it wrecked just by calculating skid marks on the road.
